On most divans in a double and above, you should have at least four gas struts attached (two extra in the middle of the bed base) to help ease the lid up and support it safely.
Extra reinforcement in the lid.
This will help make it sturdy and not twist as you lift.
Weight limits for each base.
The mattress has a big impact on how easy it us to manually lift up so make sure the mattress you choose is designed to be used with ottoman bases. There will be a weight limit for each size and mattress.
