What about the life of a pocket sprung mattress?
Many bed makers now make their mattresses using pocket springs due to the support and ultimate life span you can get out of each coil. The quality varies enormously depending on what you spend, and each bed maker will decide how good they want their pocket springs to be. Some last longer due to the steel used, others will have extra durable calico fabric covers which will breathe and not tear. Mattress brands such as Vispring will turn and form the pocket springs themselves in house and use strengthened vanadium steel wire therefore controlling the quality of output, others will simply buy the unit of springs in bulk and use a machine to upholster around them and these are always good value options at a lower cost.
More springs the better? Not necessarily…
You do get great support out of a mattress with an industry standard 1000 count and yes you can enhance the feel and responsive support with extra numbers but sometimes is also about the quality of the steel wire used in those springs which will determine the life span and how it supports your body weight. There is a limit to the number of springs we can physically fit into a standard mattress, when we reach the limit and the springs are usually cut in half and stacked. Too many stacked layers and you lose stability so in our opinion a dual layer of quality pocket springs will give the ultimate comfort without compromising on the core stability.
